MICRONEEDLING
MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is a treatment that transforms the skin by creating a series of tiny punctures or “micro wounds” which trigger the skin’s healing process, and cause an increase in collagen production. More collagen means thicker skin with less fine lines, wrinkles and scars. As the skin heals it completely renews from deep within. Skin is smoother, more refined, and radiant as a result.
Right after treatment, you’ll likely notice some slight redness and possibly swelling. You may have pinpoint bruising in some areas. These fade quickly and you can begin to apply mineral makeup 24 hours after your treatment to cover any tiny marks.
Patients enjoy seeing how the skin is changed with microneedling treatment. Fine lines and wrinkles are less obvious, pitted acne scars may become more subtle, and the overall texture of the skin is more even. Patients also often notice a difference in skin laxity – skin becomes firmer and more defined as a result.
Traditional or automated microneedling: also known as microneedling pens, uses an electronic device to create precise and controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface.
PRP microneedling “vampire facial”: involves using your own blood to create a platelet-rich plasma that is applied to the skin after microneedling. This enhances the collagen production and healing process.
Is microneedling painful?
Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the procedure, similar to a light sunburn. Topical numbing cream can be applied before treatment to minimize any discomfort.
How long does it take to see results?
Results may be noticeable after the first treatment, but it typically takes 2-3 months to see the full effects of microneedling as collagen production increases.
Is there any downtime after microneedling? Patients will have pinpoint bleeding directly after treatment as well as some redness, mild swelling and occasionally small bruises, but this typically resolves quickly. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure and makeup for 24-48 hours.
Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Yes, microneedling can be combined with other treatments such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy or topical serums to enhance the results.
Who is a good candidate for microneedling?
Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for most skin types and concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin texture.
